March 3, 2005 – Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher Hampton ("Dangerous Liaisons") will adapt the screenplay for "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell," according to a statement by New Line Cinema.
"Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell" the movie is based on Susanna Clarke's critically acclaimed novel and tells the story of two feuding magicians who, according to New Line's press release, " attempt to restore English magic in the age of Napoleon.
New Line's Executive VP Production Mark Ordesky, was quoted as saying in the press release, “Christopher's immense wit and intelligence make him ideally suited to adapt this brilliant, rich novel.”
