Universal Pictures has tapped director Paul W S Anderson to helm their Spy Hunter movie which should hit theaters in 2009.
According to Variety, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's participation in the film is unconfirmed at this point. Johnson has been attached to the project since 2004 when John Woo was expected to direct the videogame-inspired film.
A bunch of writers have tried their hands at the screenplay, but with Anderson now attached a new script is in the works. The film will follow the storyline of the Midway videogame with action centering on Interceptor, a car that transforms.
Anderson wrote and directed Resident Evil and AVP: Alien vs Predator and recently wrote the screenplay for the third Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil: Extinction. Anderson's currently at work on Death Race, a remake of the 1975 film Death Race 2000.
