By Rebecca Murray, About.com

Screenwriter Alvin Sargent has been hired by Sony Pictures to write the script to the third "Spider-Man" movie. Tentatively scheduled for release in May 2007, "Spider-Man 3" is rumored to be the last of Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" films.

Academy Award-winning writer Sargent rewrote the script to "Spider-Man 2" and did rewrites on the first "Spider-Man" movie. While the villains and storyline for "Spider-Man 3" are closely guarded secrets, Sargent, Sam Raimi and Ivan Raimi have already pounded out those details.

According to Variety, Sony Pictures made the seven figure deal with Alvin Sargent to write "Spider-Man 3" and included an option to write "Spider-Man 4."
