Writers Ed Decter and John Strauss have signed on to write "Puss in Boots," a spin-off of "Shrek 2."

Puss in Boots was introduced to audiences in the "Shrek" sequel, and immediately captured the hearts of moviegoers and critics alike (yes, critics do have hearts). Voiced by Antonio Banderas, Puss in Boots practically stole the movie from the "Shrek" stars voiced by Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, and Eddie Murphy.

Providing the voice of Puss in Boots gave Antonio Banderas the chance to poke a little fun at himself. Puss in Boots is the feline equivalent of Banderas' Zorro character, and Banderas has said he had a blast creating Puss in Boots' voice.

According to Variety, DreamWorks is planning on releasing "Puss in Boots" direct to video.
