"A Princess of Mars" follows American Civil War veteran John Carter who is transported through space to the planet Barsoom where he's taken prisoner by giant green men.
"Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" writer/director has also signed on to direct "A Princess of Mars." Robert Rodriguez had originally been hired to direct the film, but left the movie after resigning his membership in the Directors Guild of America over a dispute concerning co-directing credits with Frank Miller for the movie "Sin City."
Paramount Pictures hopes to begin filming "A Princess of Mars" in a year and is tentatively planning on a 2006 release.
