April 29, 2010 - Lionsgate announced they've just picked up the U.S. distribution rights for the crime thriller One for the Money starring Katherine Heigl (Grey's Anatomy, the upcoming Life as We Know It). Julie Ann Robinson (The Last Song) is directing, Liz Brixius is working on a rewrite, and Sidney Kimmel, Wendy Finerman, and Lakeshore Entertainment's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi are producing. Lionsgate picked up the distribution rights in a deal with Lakeshore Entertainment and Sidney Kimmel Entertainment.

One for the Money is based on Janet Evanovich's first book in the popular Stephanie Plum series. Fans didn't immediately embrace Heigl as Stephanie Plum, however Heigl has dyed her blonde tresses black in order to get into the character and is working on winning over readers of Evanovich's books. At the 2010 ShoWest event in Las Vegas, Heigl wanted to reassure Stephanie Plum fans that she's committed to faithfully bringing the character to life on the screen. "She is a very specific kind of girl, so I just wanted to show the legion of fans that I will be your vision of Stephanie Plum. It's important. I hate when my favorite books are made into films and they are just not what you expect," stated Heigl.

In the press release announcing the acquisition, Lakeshore Entertainment Chairman and CEO Tom Rosenberg said, "Janet Evanovich has created an extraordinary literary character in Stephanie Plum. Katherine Heigl is the perfect actress to bring Stephanie to the screen. Gary Lucchesi and I are thrilled to be reunited with her after our wonderful experience on The Ugly Truth. This is our second collaboration with Sidney Kimmel and we are looking forward to many more. Having worked on several films with Lionsgate over the years, we know that One for the Money is in the best possible hands."

One for the Money Synopsis:

Stephanie Plum (Katherine Heigl) can't catch a break. At 30, she finds herself newly-divorced, recently laid-off, and living with her hamster in Trenton, N.J. Broke and desperate, she lands a job working for her slimy cousin and his bail bond business. In need of fast cash she latches on to his biggest case - a local cop wanted for murder who just happens to be the guy that broke her heart in high school. Stephanie gets resourceful and tough, as she is swept up in a suspenseful world of murder, deceit, with a bit of romance.
