The book was originally based on a conversation that occurred while Tuccillo and Behrendt were working as writers on HBO's Sex and the City. Their book sets out to educate smart women on how to tell when a guy just isn't that into them. According to a press release issued by New Line, the film will "revolve around a woman who hosts a talk show and a man she becomes involved with after he guests on the show."
New Line production president Toby Emmerich was quoted as saying, "The minute I heard the title, I thought it could be a great movie. Then the writers developed an excellent story with two very castable parts which should help make this a strong romantic comedy."
