Return of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Ninja Turtles to Become a CGI Animated Film

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

July 19, 2005 - The Weinstein Company has made a deal with Warner Bros Pictures to make the first all CG-animated "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie.

Commenting on the film, the Weinsteins said it was time the franchise returned to the big screen. "Reintroducing the Ninja Turtles in an animated movie will enable the filmmakers to fully realize the adventure and humor of the property," said Weinstein.

Jeff Robinov, President of Production for Warner Bros Pictures, added, "We are very happy to have obtained the rights to this new Ninja Turtles movie. We think that a new generation of kids will love discovering the Turtles, especially supported by the enthusiasm of fans of the original movies, comic books and TV shows."

Based on the comic books, the upcoming film will stay true to the tone of the comics and will be slightly grittier than the original series of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" films.

The Weinsteins and WB hope to release the film in 2007. Kevin Munroe will direct the film and is working on the script in consultation with "Ninja Turtles" creator Peter Laird.
