Catherine Hardwicke Will Direct "The Monkey Wrench Gang"

"Lords of Dogtown" director Catherine Hardwicke will take on directing duties for "The Monkey Wrench Gang," a film she's helping to develop with Columbia Pictures.

Edward Abbey's "The Monkey Wrench Gang" centers on ex-Green Beret George Washington Hayduke, a man who joined with a few like-minded souls and waged war against the industrial development that was ruining his beloved desert.

William Goldman will adapt the screenplay, with Ed Pressman, Lloyd Phillips and Gary Burden producing the film.
