Columbia Pictures emerged as the winning bidder in a heated war over the rights to Jason McElwain's life story. McElwain had served as his high school basketball team's manager all season and as a reward for being so dedicated, his coach put him into the team's final regular season game. After a couple of missed shots, McElwain scored an amazing six three-pointers in just four minutes - including the last shot of the game. McElwain's triumph on the hardcourt was shown on almost every news station.
Laura Ziskin will produce the film with Magic Johnson and Mary Martin executive producing. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Johnson said, "When I first saw the highlights on ESPN and then heard Jason's backstory, I said, 'Man, I've got to be a part of this.' This story touched me, my kids, my wife. When we go to the movies, this is the type of story we want to see."
