"Magnum PI" Film is Closer to Being a Reality

"Dodgeball" director Rawson Marshall Thurber has signed on to direct the movie version of the classic '80s TV series "Magnum PI" for Universal Pictures.

Tom Selleck starred in the long-running series set which aired on CBS from 1980-1988. Selleck played private eye Thomas Magnum, a former military intelligence officer who was hired by millionaire playboy Robin Masters to oversee security on Master's huge Hawaiian estate. Magnum also took side jobs tracking down baddies along with a couple of his military buddies.

There's no word yet on whether the movie version will feature an appearance by Selleck, however the creators of the series - Donald Bellisario and Glen Larson - will serve as executive producers.
