By Rebecca Murray, About.com

Sept 15, 2005 - DreamWorks Pictures has tapped director Marc Forster ("Finding Neverland") to helm "The Kite Runner," based on Khaled Hosseini's best selling book and scripted by David Benioff ("25th Hour").

Forster replaces Sam Mendes who was attached to direct. Mendes will remain with the project as an executive producer.

Hosseini's debut novel follows Amir, the son of a wealthy merchant from Kabul harbors guilt over a horrible event that happened to his friend Hassan. Amir eventually flees Afghanistan after the Russians invade to begin a new life in America. But Amir can't forget what happened to Hassan and ultimately must repay the debt he owes his friend by returning to his native country.

William Horberg and Rebecca Yeldham are producing "The Kite Runner." No date has been set for filming to begin, however locations are being scouted in Turkey and Morocco.
