July 10, 2006 - Soon to be seen in the heavily anticipated thriller about snakes on a plane titled, you guessed it, Snakes on a Plane, Samuel L Jackson has agreed to a starring role in the sci-fi movie Jumper. Doug Liman (Mr and Mrs Smith) will direct the film for Regency Enterprises.
Jumper, based on the novel by Steven Gould, is the story of teenager David Rice who suddenly discovers he can teleport. David initially uses his unique talent to escape from his abusive father but soon learns how to control his ability and use it for specific reasons. In the book, David teleports around looking for his long-lost mother. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he'll be using his talents to look for the man who murdered his mother.
Jackson joins Jamie Bell, Teresa Palmer, and Tom Sturridge for the film which will begin shooting later this year. Simon Kinberg wrote the screenplay and will be producing the film with Lucas Foster and Jay Sanders.
