Long-Delayed "Indiana Jones 4" Gets a New Writer

George Lucas and Steven Spielberg Give It Another Try

By , About.com Guide

Oct 27, 2004 - It's been more than a decade since George Lucas and Steven Spielberg first started getting serious about "Indiana Jones 4." The script by Frank Darabont didn't satisfy Lucas, Spielberg and "Indiana Jones" star Harrison Ford so the last attempt at getting the film underway had to be postponed. Now Paramount Pictures and the "Indiana Jones" team have announced Jeff Nathanson ("Rush Hour") is getting a go at the script.

Nathanson has previously worked on "Catch Me If You Can" and "The Terminal" with Steven Spielberg. According to Variety, if Spielberg, Lucas and Ford approve of Nathanson finished script, it will still be difficult to get "Indiana Jones 4" off the ground any time soon.

Spielberg is currently at work on "War of the Worlds" with Tom Cruise. His next project was supposed to have been the story of the 1972 Olympics in Munich. That may change based on the "Indiana Jones 4" production.

George Lucas is completing "Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith," while "Indiana Jones" star Ford is about to begin work on "The Wrong Element" for director Richard Loncraine ("Wimbledon").
