Dean Koontz' Novel The Husband to Become a Feature Film

Hollywood hasn't done a good job in the past when it comes to adapting Dean Koontz' novels for the big screen. Any fan of Koontz' Watchers is quick to point out that the movie version of that particular novel had absolutely nothing to do with Koontz' story. That said, Koontz is apparently ready to take a chance and let Focus Features and Random House Films bring his upcoming novel, The Husband, to life on screen.

In an interview with Variety, Koontz was quoted as saying, "I've felt that the books were reduced to the lowest common denominator and an action line that may not be like mine. But I was impressed by James Schamus and (Random House Films President) Peter Gethers' attitude. I feel very confident in turning this project over to them. Because the people at Focus understand both story and subtext, they make narratively engaging, intelligent movies."

According to Amazon.com, Koontz' The Husband will hit stores on May 30, 2006. The Husband follows a man whose love for his wife is tested during 60 torturous hours.

Focus Features is fast-tracking the film.
