The rights to remake "Hawaii Five-O" have long been sought after by movie studios. Warner Bros. Pictures has finally emerged as the winner in the rights race, with plans to release a theatrical version of the classic TV series in 2006.

"Ocean's Twelve" writer George Nolfi will be handling the script, which is supposed to remain close to the concept of the original "Hawaii Five-O" series. George Litto ("Hawaii Five-O" series creator Leonard Freeman's agent) will produce the film and holds the rights to the project. Litto's been wooed by studios for years, but Warner Bros. emerged ahead of the game when they agreed to give Litto and Freeman's estate creative input into the film.

Litto told Variety Warner Bros. was the right place for "Hawaii Five-O" because "it was clear they understood the value of the franchise."

No director or actors have been named yet. Litto's daughter Andria will serve as an executive producer.
