"Hard Candy" was written by Brian Nelson and directed by David Slade. David Higgins, Richard Hutton and Michael Caldwell produced the film with Jody Patton and Rosanne Korenberg executive producing.
In a statement issued by Lions Gate announcing the purchase, President of Lions Gate Films Releasing Tom Ortenberg said, "Anchored by two great performances, 'Hard Candy' captured our attention as a stylish provocative psychological thriller. David Slade presents himself as a major new talent with this forceful first feature."
Director Slade added, "This is a film that came to be because of a wonderful script by Brian Nelson and also the hard work and passion of the cast, crew and all of the film's producers, including Michael Caldwell and Richard Hutton at Vulcan Productions and David Higgins and Hans Ritter. Lions Gate came to us with the same amount of dedication and enthusiasm that went in to making this movie; 'Hard Candy' has found its perfect home."
