June 12, 2006 - Lionsgate has picked up the US and Canadian distribution rights to the animated comedy Happily N'Ever After, featuring the voices of Sarah Michelle Gellar, Sigourney Weaver, Freddie Prinze Jr., George Carlin, Wallace Shawn, and Andy Dick.

Robert Moreland wrote the script and Paul J. Bolger directed Happily N'Ever After, a family film that's a twist on the classic Cinderella story. The action takes place in Fairy Tale Land where the balance of good and evil has been thrown out of whack. Cinderella's evil stepmother, Frieda, is now in charge of a gang of bad guys out to defeat the good guys. Cinderella is prompted into action and takes on the role of leading the resistance.

In a statement issued by Lionsgate, the studio's President of Theatrical Films Tom Ortenberg said, "Happily N'Ever After fractures a classic fairy tale in a way that is fresh, funny and immensely entertaining. When a film's Cinderella and Evil Stepmother characters are played by action heroines Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sigourney Weaver, you know you're in for a different kind of enchantment."

Executive Vice President of Lionsgate Family Entertainment Ken Katsumoto added, "Happily N'Ever After epitomizes the kind of quality films that Lionsgate seeks to bring to families everywhere. It's bursting with clever ideas, great jokes and delightful characters, and the animation is first-rate."
