Ghosts beware... If Columbia Pictures has their way, the original Ghostbusters may reunite for a third trip into the land of keymasters, slimey blobs of ectoplasm, and eggs that cook themselves. The studio has signed The Office producers/writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky to write a script which would bring back Harold Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson.
There's no word yet on the kind of deals that will have to be negotiated to actually get Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson and Ramis back together, but a solid script would be a good launching point for bringing back the franchise. Eisenberg and Stupnitsky wrote Year One which Ramis directed, so Ramis wouldn't be the sticking point. But it's not exactly a secret that Ramis, Murray and Aykroyd aren't the best of buddies.
The first Ghostbusters movie took audiences by surprise in 1984, scaring up $290+ million in business worldwide. The sequel, Ghostbusters II, hit screens five years later and collected $215 million overall.
