Dec 6, 2005 - "50 First Dates" and "The Longest Yard" director Peter Segal is sticking with the world of comedy. Segal has signed on to direct the movie version of the classic TV show, "Get Smart," with "The 40 Year Old Virgin" star Steve Carell set to take over the role made famous by Don Adams.

Tom Astle and Matt Ember will adapt the script, and Andrew Lazar, Charles Roven, and Alex Gartner will produce the long-awaited film version of "Get Smart."

Warner Bros hasn't announced when they expect production to begin on the comedy.

Steve Carell recently committed to starring in the "Bruce Almighty" sequel, "Evan Almighty." Carell's also busy on his TV series, "The Office," and voicing a role in the animated film, "Over the Hedge." He recently finished work on the comedy movie, "Little Miss Sunshine," and may take on "Juvenile" and "Dan in Real Life" in the near future.
