Stuart Beattie (Collateral) has been tapped to write the screenplay for the movie adaptation of Epic Games' Gears of War for New Line Cinema. The game's lead designer worked with Beattie on a treatment for the film with the goal in mind of satisfying fans of the videogame while at the same time introducing the world of Gears of War to a brand new audience.
According to a press release issued by New Line Cinema and Epic Games, the Gears of War videogame sold more than 3 million copies on the Microsoft Xbox 360 format and was named Gamespot's 'Game of the Year' as well as the Interactive Achievement Awards’ 'Overall Game of the Year'.
Gears of War - The Story
The game thrusts players into humankind’s epic battle for survival against the Locust Horde, a nightmarish race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet. The story unfolds as a ragtag group of soldiers use every last ounce of strength to survive the onslaught from the forces of evil, which begins on the historic Emergence Day.
