Dec 29, 2005 - Fox Searchlight has secured the North American distribution rights to the Richard Linklater film, "Fast Food Nation," based on the best selling book by Eric Schlosser.

Schlosser's book is an exposé on how the fast food industry has changed the landscape of America. Schlosser examines how our diets, culture, and economy have been changed due to the the popularity and availability of fast food. Schlosser co-wrote the screenplay with Linklater.

"The idea that came out of our meetings was that the movie would not be a documentary, but a character study of the lives behind the facts and figures," said Linklater. "I'm more interested in fiction than nonfiction. You get to the point through human storytelling."

Patricia Arquette, Ethan Hawke, Lou Taylor Pucci, Wilmer Valderrama, Bobby Cannavale, Luis Guzman, Ashley Johnson, Kris Kristofferson, Avril Lavigne, Esai Morales, Catalina Sandino Moreno, and Greg Kinnear play roles in "Fast Food Nation," which recently completed filming. Fox Searchlight is planning on releasing "Fast Food Nation" in 2006.
