Yet another classic TV series is heading to the big screen by way of a film adaptation. Fantasy Island is getting a movie makeover with Oscar nominee Eddie Murphy (Dreamgirls) set to star in the role Ricardo Montalban made famous in the TV version.
In the series, Fantasy Island was a resort where visitors could live out their fantasies (hence the island's name). Nothing was impossible on the island, including time travel.
There's no word yet on who will take over the role of Tattoo played by the 3'11" Herve Villechaize on TV. Tattoo's call of "De plane! De plane!" always proceeded the arrival of visitors onto the island.
The film is set up at Columbia Pictures with John Davis, Lucas Foster, Leonard Goldberg and Marc Toberoff producing.
Murphy returns as the voice of Donkey in Shrek the Third and is currently filming Starship Dave, a sci-fi comedy directed by Brian Robbins (Norbit).
