Steve Carell Reunites with Tom Shadyac for "Evan Almighty"

Carell Reprises His "Bruce Almighty" Character in the Comedy Sequel

Aug 26, 2005 - Steve Carell is stepping up to the plate for Universal Pictures' "Evan Almighty," the Jim Carrey-less sequel to the hit comedy, "Bruce Almighty."

Fresh off his success as the lead in "The 40 Year Old Virgin," Carell will reprise his "Bruce Almighty" role as anchorman Evan Baxter but this time around his character is given an order from the Almighty to build an ark.

"Bruce Almighty's" writer Steve Oedekerk and director Tom Shadyac are both returning for the sequel.

The script was originally fashioned for Jim Carrey's return however Carrey said no to doing the sequel. Since the "Ace Ventura" franchise, Carrey has said no to doing any sequels to any of this films.

Filming on "Evan Almighty" is expected to begin in early 2006.
