Bruce Almighty director Tom Shadyac will helm the sequel which follows the exploits of Evan Baxter, the preening newscaster from the original movie. Similar to what happened to Jim Carrey's character, Bruce, in the 2003 film, Evan is chosen by God for a special holy mission.
Oscar-winner Morgan Freeman will reprise his role from Bruce Almighty as God. Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham has joined the cast along with John Goodman, Wanda Sykes, John Michael Higgins, Jonah Hill, Jimmy Bennett, Graham Phillips and Johnny Simmons.
Steve Oedekerk (Bruce Almighty), Josh Stolberg and Bobby Florsheim wrote the screenplay to Evan Almighty. Tom Shadyac, Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum, and Neal Moritz are producing the film. Ilona Herzberg, Dave Phillips and Matt Luber serve as executive producers.
Evan Almighty is a joint production of Shady Acres Entertainment, Spyglass Entertainment and Original Film. Universal Pictures will release it worldwide.

Newly elected to Congress, Evan leaves Buffalo behind and shepherds his family to suburban northern Virginia. Once there, his life gets turned upside-down when God appears and mysteriously commands him to build an ark. But his befuddled wife (Graham) and kids just can't decide whether Evan is having an extraordinary mid-life crisis or is truly onto something of Biblical proportions...
