HandMade Films announced they've found the star of their upcoming Eloise in Paris live-action movie. 9-year-old Australian Jordana Beatty has nabbed the lead role of Eloise in the feature film to be directed by Charles Shyer from a screenplay he adapted with his daughter Hallie Meyers-Shyer and Larry Spencer. Beatty joins Uma Thurman who already committed to playing the role of 'Nanny'.
Eloise in Paris is just the first of what the studio hopes will be a franchise of films based on Kay Thompson's books. Filming is expected to begin in August. Eloise in Paris will be shot in Paris, New York, and the south of France.
Beatty has been acting on TV and in commercials in Australia for the past five years. The Sydney, Australia native beat out over 4,000 other young girls who auditioned for the part. In a press release announcing the casting, writer/director Shyer said, "Jordana is a unique combination of funny, feisty, sweet and soulful...all the qualities that were so much the essence of Kay Thompson's iconic character."
