Keira Knightley to Star in "Domino"

For Director Tony Scott, Script by Richard Kelly

By Rebecca Murray, About.com

LOS ANGELES (Aug. 2, 2004) - New Line Cinema has acquired the North American distribution rights to "Domino," an action thriller from director Tony Scott with Keira Knightley set to star in the title role. The project is being produced by Scott and Samuel Hadida, with Hadida financing. Hadida’s Metropolitan Filmexport distribution company will release the film in France, while Summit Entertainment and Davis Films are handling other foreign sales.

"Domino" is based on the true story of Domino Harvey, the daughter of actor Laurence Harvey and a former Ford model who rejected her privileged Beverly Hills life to become a bounty hunter.

"Domino" has been written by "Donnie Darko" writer/director Richard Kelly and is a Davis Films/Scott-Free production. New Line production president Toby Emmerich is overseeing the project for the studio. Principal photography is scheduled to begin Oct. 4 with a 2005 release planned. The film will shoot in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

"Domino" reunites Scott and Hadida, who first collaborated on the 1993 thriller "True Romance" and continued on 2001’s "Spy Game," which was produced in association with Hadida’s Metropolitan Filmexport.

“Tony and I have had a great relationship since 'True Romance',” said Hadida. “When the opportunity to join with him on 'Domino' came along I was delighted to be able to structure this arrangement with New Line, with whom we’ve had a long and profitable association.”

Emmerich was equally pleased to bring the project into the New Line fold.

“We are thrilled to be working with individuals as accomplished and talented as Tony Scott and Keira Knightley,” said Emmerich. “We have also had a long and mutually successful relationship with Samuel Hadida as our distributor in France, and we’re grateful that he brought this exciting project to us.”

Tony Scott is among the most successful directors working today and has helmed such blockbusters as "Top Gun," "Beverly Hills Cop II," "Days of Thunder," "Crimson Tide" and the Denzel Washington-starrer "Man on Fire" earlier this year.

Knightley has quickly established herself as a major box office force with roles in such recent hits as "Bend It Like Beckham," "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," "Love Actually," and "King Arthur." She can also be seen starring opposite Adrien Brody in the upcoming thriller "The Jacket" and starring in the upcoming "Pride and Prejudice."

In addition to "Domino," Hadida’s other 2004 productions include "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" and "The Bridge of San Luis Rey" with Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel and Kathy Bates. Hadida is also planning international co-productions later in the year for a pair of features based on hugely successful Japanese video games - Onimusha and Silent Hill.
