The Big Screen Adaptation of Dallas Loses Its Director

But Bend It Like Beckham Helmer May Take Over

Robert Luketic dropped out of the movie version of the hit 1980s series Dallas over casting issues, leaving the question of who will direct the film open for speculation. Now it looks as though 20th Century Fox has found a replacement. Gurinder Chadha (Bend It Like Beckham) is in talks to take over.

The Dallas movie is yet another one of those projects where Hollywood can't leave well enough alone. Audiences have been burned in the past by films adapted from TV shows. In order to separate itself from the pack, Dallas will need to come up with a story that matches the tone of the actual series (something most big screen adaptations have totally failed at capturing). That job was left to screenwriter Robert Harling (Laws of Attraction).

There's no word yet on the storyline or when Dallas will hit theaters (probably in 2007). The movie will star Jennifer Lopez as Sue Ellen, John Travolta as JR, Luke Wilson as Bobby, and Shirley MacLaine as Miss Ellie.
