Boaz Yakin (director of Uptown Girls, writer of The Rookie) has been hired by Warner Bros Pictures to write the screenplay for a movie based on the Conan the Barbarian character created by Robert E Howard.

The studio hasn't commented on a possible director for the untitled Conan movie or announced anything to do with casting the film. Warner Bros has revealed they're expecting to start production in early 2007.

Irving Azoff, Jon Jashni, Richard Alexander and Akiva Goldsman will produce the film. Peter Sederowsky, President and CEO of Paradox Entertainment, and Fredrik Malmberg, Paradox Entertainment's Head of Licensing and Creative Affairs are executive producing.

In a statement issued by the studio, Warner Bros Pictures' President of Production Jeff Robinov said, "We are excited about working with Boaz and Paradox Entertainment to create what will be a successful and innovative series of motion pictures."
