In a press release issued by New Line Cinema, the studio's executive vp of production Mark Ordesky said, "This is one of the world's most romantic stories. It is timeless, and its appeal knows no borders. Scott and I are absolutely committed to attracting the very greatest filmmakers and artists to help bring this great novel to the screen."
Marquez turned down numerous deals over the years before signing with New Line Cinema. Marquez' "Love in the Time of Cholera" follows Florentino Ariza as he waits for more than half a century for the woman he loves, Fermina Daza.
Scott Steindorff will produce the film with Chris Law and Dylan Russell executive producing. Steindorff was quoted as saying, "We did the deal with New Line because Mark Ordesky has great instincts and a shared passion for the material. New Line was also the best home for this project because it is a place where this movie will get made, not just developed."
