Sep 25, 2008 - The Hollywood Reporter is reporting Steven Spielberg has picked up the film rights to John Wyndham's novel Chocky and is considering directing. Spielberg's acquisition of Chocky comes just weeks after DreamWorks and Paramount parted ways and at this time it's unknown which studio - the new DreamWorks or Paramount - will be producing the pic.
Wyndham's Chocky was originally published in 1968. The story follows Matthew, a boy with an imaginary friend. After his father becomes concerned over his son's arguments with a person who doesn't exist, it's revealed the imaginary friend is actually an alien consciousness somehow housed in Matthew's mind.
Spielberg has a dozen projects in various stages of development including Tintin, Lincoln, and The 39 Clues. He last stepped behind the camera for the fourth Indiana Jones movie, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
