Wilmer Valderrama Signs on to "CHiPs"

Some have been relatively successful at the box office. Others haven't been so lucky and have tanked - badly. But nothing seems to be able to stop the studios from making classic TV shows into feature films.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "That 70s Show" star (and Hollywood chick magnet) Wilmer Valderrama will be taking on the role of Ponch, played by Erik Estrada in the TV series, in the big screen version of "CHiPs" for Warner Bros Pictures. The series ran in the late 70s and featured a group of California Highway Patrol motorcycle officers who captured bad guys and did things that actual highway patrol cops would never attempt.

The show was campy and the film will have an action-comedy tone. Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove will adapt the script based on the series. At this point in the process, no director is attached.
