Director Mike Nichols and Julia Roberts May Take on "Charlie Wilson's War"

The Big Screen Adaptation of George Crile's Book

Jan 11, 2006 - Universal Studios and Mike Nichols are working on a deal for Nichols to direct the film version of George Crile's best-selling book, "Charlie Wilson's War." In addition, Oscar-winner Julia Roberts may return to the big screen with a role in the dramatic film.

Tom Hanks is set to star in "Charlie Wilson's War" with his Playtone production company producing the film. Aaron Sorkin adapted Crile's story which follows the true story of Texas Congressman Charlie Wilson and a CIA operative who together manipulated the congress and the CIA into helping to arm the mujahideen in their fight against Afghanistan.

Tom Hanks is currently working on "The Da Vinci Code" with Ron Howard. Mike Nichols recently produced and directed "Closer" starring Natalie Portman, Clive Owen, and Jude Law. He's rumored to be attached to direct "1001 Nights" for HBO Films.
