Writer/producer/director Paul W S Anderson (Resident Evil) has made a deal with Rogue Pictures to distribute his Castlevania movie in North America and some foreign terrorities.

Crystal Sky Entertainment is co-financing the project and will handle foreign distribution in regions not covered by Rogue Pictures.

Based on the hit video game, Castlevania will go into the origins of the Dracula legend, tracking the Dracula story back to the time of Vlad the Impaler. Anderson told Variety he's been obsessed with the idea of directing a movie in which the location of the story is also a central character.

Variety quoted Anderson as saying, "Castlevania is a long-running game franchise by Japan's Konami. It focuses on the duel across the centuries between Dracula and the vampire-hunting Belmont family, played out within Dracula's vast, labyrinthine castle."

Filming on Castlevania is expected to begin in the spring of 2007, with shooting taking place in Hungary and Romania. There's no word yet on who will star in the film.
