In the weeks leading up to the release of Sacha Baron Cohen's movie,
Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, it was tough to turn on a news show without catching a bit of commentary on Cohen's character Borat stirring up controversy with the nation of Kazakhstan. The news items helped build up buzz for the film - without 20th Century Fox having to invest much money to get the movie into the public spotlight.
Based on the response to Cohen's Borat (and prior to that film's release), Universal Pictures struck a deal with Cohen to bring his gay fashionista character, Bruno, to the big screen. Cohen's deal with Universal is rumored to be for $42 million.
Cohen and Universal hope to begin filming on Bruno next summer. Jay Roach will produce the film with Cohen (Roach also produced Borat.
