The Hollywood Reporter says that first time feature film director Matthijs van Heijningen has signed on to helm the action horror movie Army of the Dead. 300 and Watchmen director Zack Snyder came up with the story and will serve as producer along with his producing partner and wife, Deborah. Awake writer/director Joby Harold wrote the screenplay.
Army of the Dead is set in a not-too-distant future full of zombies. The story follows a father who must save his daughter from becoming a victim of the zombies in Las Vegas.
Army of the Dead is set up at Warner Bros. There's no word yet on when filming is expected to get underway on the project which has been in the works since March 2007.
