Jul 19, 2005 - Jon Avnet has been hired by Millennium Films and Emmett/Furla Films to direct the dramatic movie "88 Minutes" starring Al Pacino.
Pacino will star as a college professor who works with the FBI as a forensic psychiatrist. His skills are put to the test when he's warned he only has 88 minutes left to live. The list of possible suspects who might want to knock him off include a former lover, a serial killer already on death row, and a disgruntled student.
Gary Thompson wrote the script and will produce the film with Avi Lerner, Randall Emmett, George Furla, Jon Avnet, and John Thompson.
Emmett and Furla stated, "We are thrilled to have Jon on board. We believe that Jon and Al will make a fantastic one-two creative punch that will make `88 Minutes' a superb high-concept thriller."
Filming is scheduled to begin on October 15, 2005 in Vancouver.
