Sony Pictures Classics Acquires "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada"

Tommy Lee Jones' "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" drew the interest of several studios, but it was Sony Pictures Classics that managed to ink a distribution deal for the Western, which stars Jones and Barry Pepper.

Jones has been starring in movies since the early 1970s, however "The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada" marks the first time the critically acclaimed actor stepped behind the camera to direct a feature film.

"The Three Burials" was written by Guillermo Arriaga ("21 Grams") and follows a cowboy whose good friend is killed by a border patrol agent (played by Barry Pepper). When his friend is buried in Texas despite the cowboy's desire for him to be buried in Mexico, matters take a dangerous turn. The cowboy kidnaps the agent, forcing him to dig up the body and help him transport it to Mexico for a proper burial.

Tommy Lee Jones was last seen in front of the camera in the teen comedy, "Man of the House," and will next appear in "A Prairie Home Companion" directed by Robert Altman.
