Melissa George Joins 30 Days of Night

The Twisted Vampire Tale is Taking Shape

By , About.com Guide

Aug 1, 2006 - Australian actress Melissa George (Alias) has landed a lead role in Sam Raimi's 30 Days of Night, based on the comic book mini-series by Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith, according to the actress' official website. George will be joining Josh Hartnett in the horror/thriller with filming expected to begin later this month in New Zealand.

Hartnett and George will star as Sheriff Eben Olemaun and Deputy Sheriff Stella Olemaun who protect the people of Barrow, Alaska. The northern location of the town makes it so that the sun doesn't rise for 30 straight days. Vampires love the idea of constant darkness and so Barrow has become a bloodsucker haven. The husband and wife sheriff team have to do something most law enforcement officials never have to do - they must come up with a plan to battle the vampires.

David Slade will be directing the film with Sam Raimi producing. Raimi has picked up the film rights to the sequels to 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, Return to Barrow, and Bloodsucker Tales. Columbia Pictures is aiming for an October 2007 release date for 30 Days of Night.
