Producer Joel Silver accompanied his “House of Wax” star Elisha Cuthbert (“24”) to the 2005 San Francisco WonderCon held the weekend of Feb. 18-20th. While doing an interview with journalists in support of the upcoming release of the Dark Castle horror film “House of Wax,” Silver spoke about a few of his other upcoming projects (including “Wonder Woman,” “Logan’s Run” and “V for Vendetta”) and offered his take on the “Predator” movies:

The Status of “Wonder Woman:” “I’m trying. I’m trying to work a deal with Joss [Whedon]. I was listening in the other room [where Joss was giving his ‘Serenity’ presentation]. I hope I can work that out but these are complicated deals to do. But I’d love him to do it. It’d be great if he would do it.”

"Wonder Woman’s" Appeal: “It’s just a great, legendary comic book hero and it’s one that has never been kind of been brought back to life after Lynda Carter. I mean, it’s a reinvention. When Tim Burton reinvented Batman after Adam West, and when Donner reinvented Superman after George Reeves, it’s time to do that with Wonder Woman. It’s a thing that could be great if it’s done great. I mean, if it’s done bad, you shouldn’t do it. But the idea is to try and find a way to make it and I thought Joss was a great idea because he understands a kind of female superhero character and also he’s great at what he does. I’m trying to find the best way to do it.”

What Joss Would Bring to “Wonder Woman:” “He has a lot of ideas, but he’d have to tell you (laughing).”

How Far Along is “Logan’s Run?” “Very far.”

Casting News on ”Logan’s Run:” “Oh no, not yet. [Bryan Singer] kind of slapped ‘Superman’ in front of it but we’re continuing to [work on it]. Our intention is to do that picture immediately following ‘Superman’ and to come in the summer of 2007. But the script that he’s working on, he’s got Chris McQuarrie on with him now. [They’re] working on that script. That, to me, is a movie that the original just kind of never reached a kind of greatness that the ideal could have had, and Bryan really took it to where it had to go.”

”Logan’s Run” Budget Size: “It’s a big movie.”

The Time is Right for “Logan’s Run:” “I’ve kind of controlled the rights to ‘Logan’s Run’ for a long time and until Bryan said, ‘I have an idea how I want to do it,’ I never would do it. The same with ‘Wonder Woman.’ You need the right people to kind of help make these things real. It’s just a question of, I have management at the studio who has a need every year for more movies and big movies, and it’s a question of trying to make the right movies. It’s what’s the best version of that idea, of that movie. And sometimes it takes longer to get there but I feel that if we get to have the right idea and we work our way through it, then there’s a better chance it’ll be a good movie and the audience will respond to it.”

New on “The Matrix” Front: “We’re doing the Path of Neo, which is the next video. There’s also The Matrix Online, which is going to come online in another couple of weeks. It’s interesting. The boys [meaning the Wachowski Brothers], I’m very involved with them now. We’re starting a picture now called ‘V for Vendetta,’ which starts shooting in March.”

What’s Up With “Watchmen”: “I lost that years ago. But ‘V’ I kept and Natalie Portman is starring in it and it starts shooting in Berlin on March 7th."

The Look of “V for Vendetta:” “It’s the boys. It’s their conception – the Wachowski Brothers. And they’ve got an incredible kind of idea for the movie. They’ve written the script, which is remarkable. And James McTeigue, who is their A.D., is the director of the movie. But they’re there and they’re kind of supervising everything."

"They’ve taken the idea of the comic but they’re wonderful writers and they’ve written it in a way that captures the concept but is a brilliantly conceived story.”

”V for Vendetta” Setting: “It’s set in England in like 2040 but it looks kind of like 19th century England, like the comic book.”

On His Opinion of “Alien vs. Predator:” “Do you really want me to answer that question? I mean, I made ‘Predator.’ The sequel business is so hard because sequel movies can be successful commercially, but it’s hard to make them successful movies. “Lord of the Rings” really were three great [films]. Each one was a great picture. There were questions about “The Matrix.” I loved all three movies, but it’s hard to make sequels. I had a hard time making ‘Predator 2.’ The first movie was so good at what it was and ‘Predator 3’ is just like a ‘Saturday Night Live’ sketch, I thought. I thought it was just terrible. I thought it was just a terrible film. It just kind of destroys everything [we built]. If you loved it, I’m sorry, but I thought it was a bad film. It disturbs me sometimes, especially with that since we worked so hard to create the sound effects and the looks and all that stuff. And again, look at it now and it’s so dated to me anyway. We’re so advanced. But they didn’t even take advantage of that in making that movie. It looked like that same movie. I just didn’t think it worked.”
