Stanton's been working on bringing John Carter of Mars to the big screen for years and, as a fan, he's thrilled to actually have begun filming the action adventure in London. "I have been waiting my whole life to see the characters and worlds of John Carter of Mars realized on the big screen," said Stanton in a press statement from Disney. "It is just a wonderful bonus that I have anything to do with it."
According to Disney, John Carter of Mars is based on the first of Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom Series and "chronicles the journey of Civil-War veteran John Carter, who finds himself battling a new and mysterious war amidst a host of strange Martian inhabitants."
Joining Kitsch in the cast are Lynn Collins as warrior princess Dejah Thoris and Willem Dafoe as Martian Tars Tarkas. Also featured are Thomas Haden Church, Polly Walker, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Bryan Cranston, and Daryl Sabara.
The behind the scenes team includes production designer Nathan Crowley, costume designer Mayes Rube, cinematographer Daniel Mindel, and video effects supervisor Peter Chiang.
