Jan 14, 2010 - The cast is coming together for Warner Bros Pictures' big screen adaptation of DC Comics' Green Lantern, with Peter Sarsgaard (An Education, Orphan) in negotiations to take on the role of the villain Dr. Hector Hammond. But it's looking like Sarsgaard won't be Green Lantern's only bad guy.

HitFix is reporting Green Lantern villain Sinestro may still have a role in the action film set to hit theaters in June 2011. Back in October 2009 the internet was abuzz with speculation that Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children, Watchmen, and the 2010 A Nightmare on Elm Street) would be handling the part of Sinestro. During our exclusive interview at the SCREAM Awards, I asked Haley about the casting rumor. "Nobody's called me and said, 'Hey, we're doing this.' But it sounds good to me. I certainly want to check it," said Haley. "Yeah, I'm excited about it."

Haley went on to say that he would consider it, and that he's fine with playing a villain.

So, it's sounding like Green Lantern will have Dr. Hector Hammond as the main villain and introduce Sinestro, setting him up for the second film of the series. Ryan Reynolds will star as Hal Jordan, a test pilot given a power ring by an alien, making him a member of the interstellar police organization Guardians of the Universe. Gossip Girl's Blake Lively is set to play Carol Ferris, daughter of Ferris Aircraft owner Carl Ferris, and the love interest of Hal's.

Martin Campbell, director of Casino Royale and the upcoming Mel Gibson movie Edge of Darkness, is helming the action film which is scheduled to begin shooting in March.
