January 9, 2010 - Gossip Girl star Blake Lively started off 2010 by landing the lead female role in one of 2011's most anticipated films, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lively has signed up to play Carol Ferris in Green Lantern starring Ryan Reynolds and to be directed by Martin Campbell (The Legend of Zorro, Casino Royale). Warner Bros' Green Lantern is heading into production shortly with a target release date of June 17, 2011.

Reynolds is set to play Hal Jordan, a test pilot given a power ring by an alien, making him a member of the interstellar police organization Guardians of the Universe. Lively's Carol Ferris is the daughter of Ferris Aircraft owner Carl Ferris, the company that employs Hal Jordan as a test pilot, and the love interest of Hal's. Ultimately, Carol will become the villain Star Sapphire, but that storyline's not likely to be a part of the 2011 film.

The 22 year old Californian just wrapped work on The Town, a gritty crime drama based on the book by Chuck Hogan and adapted/directed by Ben Affleck. She was recently seen in the independent film The Private Lives of Pippa Lee written and directed by Rebecca Miller and co-starring Robin Wright Penn, Maria Bello, and Alan Arkin.
