"Monster-in-Law" Synopsis:
In-laws. Friend or foe? Extended family or extended enmity? Lifelong
benefactor or life-threatening antagonist? Beloved or bedeviled . . . well, you get the point. It's a universal given that none is more feared or placated than the insufferable few who earn the dreaded moniker
"Monster-in-Law."
Accomplished and beautiful, Viola Fields (Fonda) has honed her image as an indomitable force in broadcast journalism for the past thirty years, but when her once-popular news series is abruptly cancelled, the celebrated diva is left completely unhinged. No longer distracted by a busy career, Viola finds herself unfocused and alone. Coincidentally, in a polar opposite phase of her life, beautiful Charlotte 'Charlie' Cantillini (Lopez) is faced with the challenge of pushing beyond her personal limitations and boundaries. A novice designer, she cannot muster the courage or drive necessary, despite copious talent, to move beyond odd jobs and intermittent paychecks in order to launch her own couture clothing line. Their two lives converge when Viola's kind and altruistic son Kevin (Vartan), a handsome doctor, relocates to be near his mother only to meet and fall in love with Charlie. But when Charlie suddenly becomes Kevin's fiancée, right before Viola's eyes, Viola freaks and the gauntlet is thrown. Viola calls upon the support of her best friend and assistant, Ruby (Sykes) who wants no part of Viola's shenanigans, but is drawn into the fray despite her best intentions. Before long, Viola demonstrates superlative skill as an overbearing, opinionated, snooty mother-in-law to-be, strategizing outlandish escapades to break up the happy couple. No amount of pandering to Viola's whims will stop the onslaught. When Charlie finally decides to fight fire with fire, she unwittingly discovers an inner strength she never realized she possessed, and the most hilarious catfight of the millennium begins in earnest.
"Monster-in-Law" is being filmed in and around Los Angeles, utilizing locations in Pasadena, Culver City, Malibu, Hollywood and surrounding areas. Principal photography is set to wrap by early August.
