Aug 13, 2008 - In November 2006 Tom Cruise and Paula Wagner took over United Artists with the goal of reinvigorating the studio. However, since teaming up to run UA only one film, Lions for Lambs, has been released - and it bombed. Their dreams of a rebirth of United Artists have dimmed, and now Paula Wagner has announced she's leaving her position as Chief Executive Officer.
Wagner will remain a part owner of UA, but she'll be leaving the day-to-day responsibilities of running the studio behind. In a press release announcing the change, it was confirmed Wagner will transition back to the role of producer, working closely on projects greenlit by UA while working under her own production shingle.
According to the official announcement by United Artists and MGM, Tom Cruise's involvement in UA will remain the same.
