25 year old actor Brad Renfro was found dead in his home on January 15, 2008. The police have determined Renfro, who was discovered dead by his girlfriend, did not die as the result of foul play.
Renfro had a lengthy history of substance abuse which led to numerous run-ins with law enforcement. According to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Renfro's friends told the authorities the troubled actor had been drinking before his death.
Renfro was born in Tennessee and got his start in feature films with The Client opposite Susan Sarandon and Tommy Lee Jones. Renfro continued to appear in one or two movies a year after the 1994 release of The Client, contributing mostly supporting performances in films including Sleepers and Ghost World. His biggest role post The Client was in the dramatic thriller Apt Pupil directed by Bryan Singer (Superman Returns).
In my 2005 interview with Brad Renfro in support of the Adrien Brody movie The Jacket, the actor told me that if he was offered the opportunity to see into the future the way Brody's character was able to do in the movie, he wouldn't take it. "I dont want to know," replied Renfro.
The Los Angeles County Coroner performed an autopsy on Renfro on January 17th. The results have not yet been released.
