Christopher Reeve was born in Princeton, New Jersey, on September 25, 1952. His mother was a newspaper reporter and his father was a novelist and Wesleyan University professor. Reeve trained for acting at Cornell and Juilliard and made his Broadway debut in 1976 in "A Matter of Gravity" with Katharine Hepburn.
Though best known for his starring role in "Superman," Reeve's other feature film credits include "Somewhere in Time," "Speechless," and "Noises Off." After his accident left him confined to a wheelchair, Reeve worked only occasionally in show business. A few of his post-accident credits include directing the HBO film, "In the Gloaming," and starring in the television movie, "Rear Window."
Reeve is survived by his wife, Dana, and three children - and millions of fans who adored Reeve onscreen and respected him for his work offscreen. After his passing, Dana Reeve issued this statement: "On behalf of my entire family, I want to thank Northern Westchester Hospital for the excellent care they provided to my husband. I also want to thank his personal staff of nurses and aides, as well as the millions of fans from around the world who have supported and loved my husband over the years."
