By Rebecca Murray, About.com

Jan 30, 2006 - The tragic event that took the lives of 75 people including Marshall University football teammates, coaches, fans, university employees, and airplane crew members will be retold in an as-yet-untitled film to star Matthew McConaughey.

McG ("Charlie's Angels") will direct the film for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures who are teaming up to co-finance and produce the dramatic film.

The film recounts the events of November 14, 1970 when 75 people boarded a chartered DC-9 after the Marshall University Thundering Herd football lost a game to East Carolina. At 7:47pm, the plane crashed into a hillside while trying to land at the Tri-State Airport at Huntington, West Virginia. All 75 individuals on board perished in the crash, including 37 members of the football team and five coaches.

According to Variety, the film will be shot on the Marshall University campus and the surrounding area beginning this spring.
