Sep 29, 2008 - The cast of Warner Bros Pictures' Sherlock Holmes movie has expanded by two. Jude Law signed on a while back to play Sherlock Holmes' assistant Dr Watson and now word comes that Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) will be playing Holmes' love interest.
Guy Ritchie is helming the film which, according to our interview from July, will be a big action picture. Producer Joel Silver described it as "James Bond in 1891."
"We're trying to stick to the authentic idea of Sherlock," said Ritchie. "Now what happened was is I don't think they could film Sherlock as an action hero in previous productions, because they just didn't have the technical knowhow or capacity to do so. Well that's changed now so we're sticking to his roots, but his roots were he was an action man."
Ritchie added, "He was an intellectual action man so that was part of the reason we were interested."
Robert Downey Jr is taking on the title role with Mark Strong playing the main villain, Blackwood.
