If the deal goes through, Maguire will play a mute who leaves his small town to follow his dream of conducting an orchestra. In a real test of Maguire's acting skills, he would go the entire film without speaking. Maguire would also produce the film along with Michael London.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, New Line acquired the project as a spec script from Rob Perez. Martin Hynes did one rewrite and Richard LaGravanese just finished up another short rewrite.
London described "Quiet Type" as a light, magical fable. London told The Hollywood Reporter, "Metaphorically, it's about what it means to get by in a world with no voice when everyone has one; everyone feels at times like they don't have a voice."
Maguire will soon begin work on "The Good German" for Steven Soderbergh. He's also got "Spider-Man 3" looming on the horizon.
